René Maheu Prize

The René Maheu Prize recognizes the prestige of the international civil service, in tribute to René Maheu, Director-General of UNESCO from 1962 to 1974.

Its objective is to encourage individuals or groups of individuals to continue their action in favor of the international civil service.

The prize is awarded every two years, unless otherwise decided by the Jury, following and respecting its status (in French).

1995   Association for the Security and Independence of International Civil Servants; Honorable mention to Ms. Lori Berliner (United Nations official) and Mr. Alain Pellet (professor of international law)

1997   Sir Brian Urquhart

1999   Dr. Risto Tervahuata

2005   FICSA; Posthumous special mention to Sergio Vieira de Mello 

2007   Pierre Henquet
