UNESCO Choir and Orchestra

The UNESCO Choir welcomes singers of all levels of experience and voices to join us in September at the start of the new musical year!

Founded in 1990 by Maestro Jorge Lozano-Corres and under his leadership until March 2017, the UNESCO Choir and Orchestra performs at official ceremonies and events at UNESCO including the General Conference and in various locations within Paris (the Churches of Saint Louis des Invalides, Saint Sulpice, Saint Germain des Prés, the Madeleine and the Temple de Passy), to the benefit of humanitarian causes, inter alia Les Ecoles de l’Espoir.

The Choir and Orchestra undertook in 2015 a musical tour in the World Heritage site of Oaxaca, Mexico to help celebrate the 70th anniversary of UNESCO by promoting its core objective of building peace and intercultural dialogue. In 2019, it  performed at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the institution.

Since April 2017 the Choir Director is Connie Glessner and the Musical and Artistic Director is Cyrille Kirilov. The Choir includes active and retired UNESCO staff members, interns, members of Permanent Delegations, Embassies, NGOs and outside organizations.

The Choir plans to give at least two concerts each year.

These take place in room A 30 (below Room IX in the main Fontenoy building) every Monday from 6:30 pm to 8 pm and Thursday from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. Choir members are asked to endeavour to attend at least one rehearsal each week.
