After a first experience with the STU Council for two mandates during the difficult period of the 2012-2015 restructuring, which saw us work tirelessly to limit as much as possible the impact of the redeployment exercise on staff, I joined the STU Council again in 2022-2023 and have had the privilege of being its President for the past year. This has given me the opportunity to dedicate myself unreservedly to defending staff rights and improving working conditions at UNESCO, by listening to staff and developing a firm and constructive dialogue with the Administration which has led to the tangible results presented at the recent Staff Assembly. There are still many issues to deal with (reform of the Field network, new parental leave policy, geographical mobility, implementation of the new human resources strategy and precarious contracts, health and well-being, flexible working conditions, internal justice, etc.) as well as many individual cases to deal with. I would like to be able to continue to make the experience I have gained over the last few years available to everyone, working with a highly dedicated and competent team of Councilors, and with the constant and passionate support of our Secretariat, so that all staff feel both well represented and defended, but also motivated to participate. This is because I believe above all in the fundamental importance of solidarity, without which an organization cannot develop healthily, and a fairer, more sustainable world can never come into being.

Re-elected on 20 March 2024 by the STU members for two years (April 2024 – March 2026), Mr. Philippe Pypaert is also member of the 17th STU Executive Bureau.
