As I am one of the STU staff representatives in the Field for many years, allow me to provide more information about myself and also a brief of my plan for the upcoming period. With the new established Human Resources policy, there is a need for a constructive and negotiating approach to ensure that equitable conditions of service are maintained and that staff rights are respected. Having been a staff representative in UNESCO Cairo Office for almost 14 years and also staff representative in the Field, I am re-running for the Council in the spirit of “acting together". My main aim is to do my best to contribute to a healthy professional environment and to help colleagues to overcome any problems or difficulties they may encounter. With Field office staff support, I was able to bring my contribution to the STU for more than 12 years. As most of you may be aware, the staff in the Field need more attention, and I can see that during my participations in FICSA councils, as part of STU member missions, our voice has been heard and our efforts has been recognized specially for the meetings with consecutive negotiations with the ICSC regarding locally recruited staff salaries in the Field. Today with my experience of 30 years in the service of the Organization, holding several contract types, I wish to be part of STU esteemed colleagues to continue with this project. Indeed, we have experienced difficult times, but with a positive, optimistic spirit and a lot of determination, we overwhelmed them while attempting to disregard the maximum of the negative impacts of certain measures could have over the staff. That was a major challenge where the desire to constantly raise the bar, the common interest and creativity were important allies.

Difficulties and frustration remain but the desire to take action in order to raise up the fundamental principles and values forming the cornerstone of our Organization are more important. This would not be conceivable without a staff policy complying with ethics, moral and spirit of justice.

Re-elected on 20 March 2024 by the STU members for two years (April 2024 – March 2026), Ms Amani El-Sheikh is also member of the 17th STU Executive Bureau.
