In November last year, my spouse and I were delivered of twins and to our delight a new parental policy has increased paternity leave to 16 weeks. This attests to the tremendous work the unions are doing to advance the interest of staff. I am presenting my name to contribute to the mission of the council to assist push the boundaries for our collective rights. I have previously represented my colleagues on the UN country team forum and presided over our locally formed staff association. I believe this representation has prepared me and honed my social consciousness. I believe in collective action and solidarity for common good.
The world is changing likewise social norms and values. The work environment must evolve to meet these challenges. This is the time to hold on to egalitarian values.
